Absentee Voting

If you registered to vote by mail, your registration will be marked “challenged” since no registrar viewed your signature. You will not be able to vote absentee via mail until you have voted once at the polls, at which time proof of identification will be required. If you pick up your absentee ballot, your signature can be validated at that time and the “challenged” status removed.

Michigan Election Law grants authority to clerks to establish a list of voters that have requested to be on a permanent list to receive an absent voter ballot application prior to every election.
When you receive the application prior to each election, you may choose to fill out the application and receive a ballot, or discard the application and vote at the polls election day. You still must meet one of the six statutory requirements listed below under the "Absentee Voting Statutory Requirements" tab.
To be added to the permanent list fill out the response card/form and return it to the Township Clerk’s office-
Permanent Absent Voter List Form

You must meet one of the statutory requirements to obtain an absentee ballot:

  1. Will be absent from the community
  2. Physically unable to attend polls
  3. Tenets of religion
  4. Appointed election inspector in precinct other than residence
  5. 60 years of age or older
  6. Confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial

Absentee ballots are available at the Township Hall for all elections approximately 3-4 weeks prior to an election. You must fill out an application and submit it to the Clerk’s office (print application) up until 2pm on the Saturday before an election.  You may vote absentee up until 4pm on the Monday prior to an election by submitting an application before the 4pm deadline and voting the ballot in the office and turning it in before 5pm closing time.  Ballots cannot leave the office on the Monday prior to an election.
