Tax bills go out July 1st for the summer tax bill and December 1st for the winter tax bill. If you don't receive a bill please call the Treasurer's Department at 734-878-3131..

Beginning with your 2017 Winter Tax Bill, the last day to pay without interest will be February 14th  2018.  You still have until February 28th to pay but will incur 1% interest.  This is a necessary step in an effort to reduce the complications a later payment date brings as we meet our deadline to settle with the County.

Paying your taxes - FAQ's

Tax bills go out July 1st for the summer tax bill and December 1st for the winter tax bill. If you don't receive a bill please call the Treasurer's Department at 734-878-3131.

Please make checks out to Putnam Township. Please write your telephone number and your Property I.D. number on your check for reference. Checks are accepted only as conditional payment. If the bank does not honor the check, the tax is considered unpaid and subject to applicable penalites and interest. A $25.00 fee will also be charged.

You now have the option of paying your property taxes with a credit card or electronic check. Electronic payments can only be made online at or by calling Official Payments at 1-800-272-9829. Official Payments will charge a convenience fee of %3 on credit card payments and a flat fee of $3.00 for electronic checks. Credit card payments cannot be made at the Township.

Why do I have a convenience fee for credit card payments:

Official payments charges a convenience fee for processing the payment transaction. The fee is not charged by or paid to Putnam Township. You will be informed of all charges and fees before you authorize payment.

Why doesn't the Township cover the convenience fee?

If Putnam Township were to assume the cost of the fees, the funds would have to come from the general fund. This is not viewed as an appropriate use of township's funds as it benefits only some, and not all, of the residents.

How safe is official Payments' system?

The system has been tested and proven. The IRS and more than 2,200 state and local governments have chosen Official Payments as an electronic service provider.

Will I receive a confirmation of my card payment:

Yes. You will be provided a confirmation number at the end of the transaction. This confirmation number and your card statement will provide confirmation of your card payment to the government agency. For questions call Official Payments Customer Service @ 1-800-487-4567.

For your convenience there is a drop box located in the vestibule at the Township Hall. After hour payments received in the drop box on the due date will be posted paid on time.

Township residents have the option of making partial payments toward their tax amounts due. This option is available for the Summer and Winter taxes and can only be made during the tax collection season.

Start by clicking the link for "Online Tax Payment". This will direct your web browser to a third-party site that provides the capability to pay your taxes on-line. Please be advised that there is a fee (approximately 3%) for online credit card payments. Electronic check payments are charged a flat fee of $3.00 per transaction.

Once your browser has been directed to the third-party site, verify that you are in “Current Tax” this allows you to search for your property. You can search by a number of different criteria including address, street name, parcel number, and owner name. Fill out the desired criteria and click the "search" button at the bottom.

The next screen will show you the results of your search. If you don't see what you are looking for simply click the "back" button in your browser so that you can perform another search. Otherwise, select the property that you wish to make an online payment for by clicking the link for the parcel number.

The website will then display a page with detailed tax information for the selected property. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen to view current and previous tax bills.

The bottom of the screen will show you current and previous tax bills, along with the amount due for each one. Bills that have not yet been paid might have a link along the right hand side that says "Pay Tax Bill Now." Click on the link to proceed to the next step. If you do not see this link, then online payments are not possible for that particular bill.

The screen will ask you to confirm some of the payment details including the amount and payment type (either credit card or electronic check). Click the "pay now" button once you have confirmed the information on this screen.

The next page will again confirm the details of your payment and show you the amount of the associated convenience fee. You will need to read and accept the terms and conditions and click the "accept" button in order to proceed.

The system will now ask you to supply the details for your selected payment type. This might include your name, address, and credit card or banking information. The payment site uses a secure SSL connection to keep your information safe. You will need to provide the requested information and then click the "continue" button at the bottom of the page.
